John Overton
Guitar, Banjo, Cittern and Vocals

John began his adventure with music nearly 40 years ago when he was fourteen years old. Along with some friends from high school he formed what could be called the epitome of a "garage band". During his early years he played in several bands. The repertoire of these groupd included Rock & Roll and Soul music. He played both guitar and bass guitar in these bands depending on the needs of the group. After college John put aside his instruments for awhile concentrating on family and his job. in the early 80's John and his wife Cathy (also a member of Trinity) discovered Irish and Scottish dancing. It wasn't long before the idea to create a local Kansas City Celtic band to play for Irish and Scottish country dancing took root. Soon "The Reel Time Jig Band" was formed and John began to learn Celtic music on the Bouzouki and later on the tenor banjo.
"The Reel Time Jig Band" was short lived however and John and his wife formed a new ensemble in about 1985 named Trinity. Later John brought back his first instrument of choice, the guitar, mainly to accompany his own vocals.
Trinity, over the years has undergone many changes but John, along with his wife Cathy, have remained and kept the band improving, growing musically and creatively. John regained hid love of Rock & Roll and added a new fancy for Jazz, Swing and especially Latin music. These musical styles may seem incompatible with traditioal Celtic music, however with clever arrangements and the addition of the electric guitar the repertoireof Trinity has become eclectic and always contains surprises.
