Cathy Overton
Keyboards

Cathy began to study classical piano at the age of nine. As a child and teenager she accompanied congregational singing at the church that she and her family attended. Cathy always loved folk music, particularly American and tunes from the Brittish Isles and Ireland. Cathy's interest in Celtic folk music deepened when she and John began taking Irish and Scottish folk dancing lessons in the mid 1980's. Cathy still studies and performs Irish ceili dancing with the adult dancers of the O'Riada Academy of Irish Dance.
Cathy began playing the keyboard when she and John organized their first Irish folk band. Cathy soon found that keyboards and synthesizers were not only more portabled than pianos but there were sounds that could mimic a variety of musical instruments as well as orchestrial sounds that were great for back-up on many songs and dance tunes. Cathy now not only performs with Trinity but plays piano and/or keyboards in local assisted living and retirement centers.
For many years, Cathy has alos participated in teaching workshops in Irish music and dance to local elementary, middle school and senior high school age students. Cathy also teaches "kinder dance", a dance education program for pre-schoolers in area daycare and pre-schools. Cathy feels very fortunate to find employment in the twin passions of her life, music and dance.
